The World Reknown 36th Hampton Classic
September 18th, 2011
Irene Michaels
The sport of kings in all it's reigning glory returned to Bridgehampton, N.Y. from Aug. 28th - Sept. 4th for the 36th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show. Highlighting the event was the $250,000 FTI Grand Prix and FEI World Cup Qualifier on the last day, Sept. 4th. The Classic is the ultimate example of a world-class show jumping competition with some of the world's best riders and horses pursuing their dreams of winning a prized national title.
An unexpected surprise this year was the Long Island Horse Show series for Riders with Disabilities who made an appearance on the same day as the $250,000 FTI Grand Prix and FEI World Cup Qualifier. Because of Hurricane Irene, this particular entertaining series took place on the final day of the Hampton Classic instead of the usual Monday appearance.
Among all of the prestigious national equestrian competitions I've attended, the Hampton Classic always shines with a variety of vendors and retailers to suit every need of an equestrian; from exquisite riding clothes made in Italy to millinery and accessories. Always a favorite designer of the show is Alessandro Albanese (www.alessandroalbanese.com). The remarkable champagne served to everyone was Champagne Louis Roederer, (France) vintage 2004, originally created for Tsar Alexander II in 1876. Overall, the first class atmosphere, environment, and camaraderie makes this social event one of the most impressive and respected hunter/jumper horse shows in the country.
