34th Annual Hampton's Classic Horse Show

By Irene Michaels
September 14, 2009

This is one of the largest and most spectacular and respected hunter/jumper horse shows in the country. This extravagant and social event takes place in Bridgehampton, New York with over a half of million dollars in prize money, 50,000 spectators and 1,400 horses.

As one of the most esteemed competitions in the country, the event draws nationally competitive equestrians and admirers.

My hat is off to these tremendous riders who are so dedicated, disciplined and courageous. Being an equestrian myself, I know how much work goes into this sport. It's not only the riders that work hard, but the horses; they are amazing.

Walking along the grounds before you enter the Grand Prix tent, there are a variety of vendors and retailers to suit every need of an equestrian. One of my favorite was Alessandro Orlbanese, who displayed exquisite riding clothes made in Italy (www.alessandroalbanese.com) and Kokin, with its extraordinary millinery and accessories (www.saratogatrunk.com). Also on the grounds were a variety of fun and funky retailers where visitors could shop for gifts and memorabilia from the show.

At the end of the day riders, friends and sponsors were all invited on one of Northrop and Johnson's luxurious yachts to unwind from the day's events and have a friendly drink and conversation with each other. Steve Doyle was in charge and certainly knows how to throw a party. Please visit (www.njyachts.com) for more info on these glamorous and spectacular yachts.

Some of the fun people I had a chance to meet while in the Hampton's included Hillary Clinton, Mayor Bloomberg, Cliff Robertson, Robert Duvall, David Yurman and of course my dear friends Jason Binn and Marty Richardson. A weekend that will not be forgotten for a long time. Below, please enjoy some photos from the event.
